Fort Smith, Arkansas: Winding Down

The last post I did that dealt with the "Oklahoma Is OK"  run was awhile ago, partially due to an ice dam here at the casa, and not wanting to end the "coverage". Well, one chapter ends another one starts!
I left off with us merry ramblers leaving the Ft. Smith Museum and walking over to the actual Ft. Smith courthouse/jail.

Operated and maintained by the National Park Service, we enjoyed a very interesting tour led by a park ranger. Our tour started down beneath the actual courtroom in the original jail...
The conditions were pretty rank when the jail was being used! Upstairs we sat in Judge Parker's courtroom...
The jail was relocated within the building-very fascinating!
From the courthouse we moved on to find the visitors center-housed in a former house-of-ill repute! Unfortunately the visitor's center was closed. To me, this was a sad way to end our last day of sightseeing on this incredible trip! We did stumble upon this funky place and entertained the proprietor and some other customers...

The local law enforcement was checking us out so we rolled on back to camp and avoided the hemp-jig...
*Special thank you to Wyatt for taking a lot of Ft. Smith pictures as seen here, except for group picture taken by JT.
